Spiritual Life and Wellness
Many people have a deep desire to explore their life’s meaning and purpose. For individuals who are experiencing homelessness, helping them develop this perspective can be even more profound in their journey to moving from brokenness toward a future path marked by personal, physical, and spiritual wellness. Experiencing being homeless can be a toxic and traumatic experience for our clients.
With the objective of helping Chapman Partnership residents create a healthy respect for themselves, the Spiritual Life and Wellness Program was officially launched in January 2018.
- The program’s mission is to provide the tools and resources to empower residents to embrace and strengthen their body, mind and spirit.
The program embodies three pillars:
Body:
Helping residents build healthy habits around diet, exercise and rest as foundational to overall wellbeing and vitality;
Mind:
Mindfulness workshops, as well as leadership and motivational conversations that aid residents in setting sustainable, life-enhancing goals; and
Spirit:
Weekly devotionals, prayer hour, one-to-one pastoral sessions, worship services and bible studies.
Activities Available Through the Spiritual Life and Wellness Program:
Chapman Champs, a weekly men’s group facilitated on Monday’s where male mentors from all walks of life encourage men experiencing housing instability with stories of the journey of their own life’s ups and downs
Wonder Women Wednesdays focuses on activities of empowerment, self-worth and reflection, and is led by female community leaders who share their spiritual and wellness journey
Weekly services that bring in guest speakers from religious communities, offering opportunities for residents to connect to a spiritual community that supports the continuance of their efforts in transforming their lives post-shelter stay
