CHAPMAN PARTNERSHIP HONORS GABLES PHILANTHROPIST KIRK LANDON

MIAMI, FL – Thursday, October 18th, 2012 – R. Kirk Landon, former chairman and CEO of American Bankers Insurance Group, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Humanitarian Award by Chapman Partnership.

Mr. Landon, a longtime board director for Chapman Partnership, is being recognized as a humanitarian and philanthropist for his steadfast support in the mission to end homelessness in Miami-Dade County.

“Kirk exemplifies the meaning of philanthropy throughout our entire community,” said Trish Bell, chairman of Chapman Partnership. “Not only has he helped countless numbers of homeless individuals have a better life, through his guidance and support at Chapman Partnership since its inception, but numerous organizations have benefited by his counsel and his extreme generosity. Kirk is a true humanitarian in every sense of the word.”

Ms. Bell will present the award at the nonprofit organization’s 2012 Chapman Partnership Annual Gala on Saturday, Oct. 20, at JW Marriott Marquis Miami, 255 Biscayne Boulevard Way. For information about attending the event, call 305-329-3042.

Mr. Landon, a Coral Gables resident, said he was recruited personally by Alvah Chapman to join the public-private partnership.

“I’m delighted to receive this recognition. Chapman Partnership reduces homelessness and sets an example for the entire country,” Mr. Landon said.

Mr. Landon’s legacy as a generous donor to the South Florida community is well known in his drive to make the area a world-class destination. He contributes to the arts and education, and the undergraduate school of business at Florida International University bears his name. He is president of The Kirk Foundation and The Kirk A. and Dorothy P. Landon Foundation.

Robert and Brenda Nestor Castellano are the chairs of the annual gala, and the program emcee will be Laurie Jennings, three-time Emmy award-winning reporter and main anchor on Local 10 News.
