Wellness

A key component of Chapman Partnership’s services is providing resources that support the physical and mental wellbeing of our residents. Through partnerships with key providers, our residents have access to state-of-the-art medical and dental clinics and mental health resources provided onsite at both Homeless Assistance Centers.

Medical Care

Within 72 business hours, all incoming residents are evaluated by the medical team at our Clinics, which are operated by Jackson Health System. The Clinics are designed to stabilize and address the immediate healthcare needs of our residents, including acute health problems and chronic conditions.  During a resident’s stay, we become their primary care provider offering preventative medical care, chronic disease management, immunizations, health screenings, and prescriptions.

Dental Care**

Our Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) has two fully-equipped examination rooms that include commercial-grade equipment as found in a typical dental office, and is staffed by a full-time Dentist and two Dental Assistants.  Annually, more than 9,300 preventive and restorative oral health procedures are provided for children and adults, including comprehensive dental exams, oral hygiene instruction and nutritional counseling for dental disease, prophylaxis, sealants, X-rays, fillings, temporary crowns, surgical removal of an erupted tooth, and periodontal scaling and root planning.

**Due to COVID-19, services through our MDU have been temporarily paused!

Mental Health

Approximately 60% of Chapman Partnership’s adult residents are diagnosed with mental health problems that present a barrier to overcoming homelessness. In partnership with Jackson Health System, mental health services are offered to address common diagnoses, such as depression and anxiety disorders, bipolar disease, schizophrenia, and alcohol and/or substance abuse related disorders.  Residents have access to an onsite psychiatrist who provides mental health counseling and medication management, with referrals to mental health and substance abuse treatment groups through partnerships with Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

Medical, dental and mental health services are components of each resident’s Housing Stability Plan, incorporated to ensure physical and emotional wellbeing, supporting a balanced quality of life.

Spiritual Health

Many people have a deep desire to explore their life’s meaning and purpose. For individuals
who are experiencing homelessness, helping them develop this perspective can be even more
profound in their journey to moving from brokenness toward a future path marked by personal,
physical, and spiritual wellness.  Experiencing being homeless can be a toxic and traumatic
experience for our clients.

With the objective of helping Chapman Partnership residents create a healthy respect for
themselves, the Spiritual Life and Wellness Program was officially launched in January 2018.
