Guests attended the cocktail reception dressed in equestrian chic attire and classic riding habits. They enjoyed delicacies like cracked conch, sautéed snapper, and coconut cake while taking in the sea breezes and rhythms of saxophonist Jorge Gomez.

Glamour. Style. Vision. And couture. They are all synonymous with Miami Fashion Week, but there is so much more than Lights-Camera-Catwalk. Lourdes Fernandez-Velasco, the Executive Managing Director of MFW — six days of runway shows taking place throughout the city at venues such as Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and Seaspice — has fashionably revolutionized Miami with the first global fashion week in Florida. Not only by creating its own content but also by generating a space to discuss sustainability and pioneering fashion into the Metaverse.
Through Miami Fashion Week, Miami has been established as the fifth city in the world to be part of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s “Important Dates Calendar,” joining London, Milan, New York, and Paris. In fact, Miami is the first city to join the top four and enter this Calendar in over 65 years.
“The city deserves a prominent fashion event to showcase both local and international talent, given its status as one of the most vibrant cities globally,” says Fernandez-Velasco. “My hopes are to have Miami Fashion Week serve as a platform for nurturing and promoting emerging talent from the region.”
Miami Fashion Week actively supports and collaborate with major educational institutions in Miami-Dade County, including DASH, Miami Fashion Institute, Art Institute, Saint Thomas University, FIU, UM, and Istituto Marangoni. It initiated the Miami Fashion Week Sustainability Summit in 2017, in partnership with Miami Dade College and Knight Foundation. It is the first fashion week to voice sustainability in the industry, and throughout the years, has brought together experts, professionals, buyers, and students from all over the globe for Sustainable Fashion Talks. MIAFW focuses on technological, socioeconomic, environmental, innovative, and ethical challenges. Through Fernandez-Velasco’s leadership, Miami Fashion Week has gained recognition from media outlets including Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, New York Times, among others.

Today, we are a global law firm with more than 2,650 attorneys working in 47 locations. As our firm has grown, so has Miami, and our attorneys have helped define this city — from representing developers who built the luxury resorts and gleaming condo towers that grace Miami Beach and the skyscrapers that dominate downtown to the international businesses that make the city a hub for cross-border transactions. The firm’s deep knowledge and experience in the technology sector have nurtured some of the region’s largest and most innovative companies from start-ups to billion-dollar enterprises.
Yet, our involvement in Miami goes far beyond business. This is our community, and we would not be the global firm we are today without the opportunities that have been afforded to us here. As Miami now stands at a critical juncture on the national and world stage, we are more committed than ever to drive change that will ensure Miami’s continued promise as a community that offers opportunities for all.
Thanksgiving is a time of sharing and giving, and in Miami, a unique community is embracing this spirit through the innovative world of Web3 technology. This is not just a story about technology, but about how a community can come together to make a meaningful difference.
In South Florida, a vibrant community known as The Chain Miami, which includes leading Web3 executives, builders, and enthusiasts, is setting a new standard for charitable giving. This Thanksgiving, they’re using the cutting-edge technology of blockchain to raise funds for families in need, aiming to collect $5,000 for Thanksgiving meals.
The Chain Miami has partnered with Nifty Bridge to facilitate donations to the Chapman Partnership, a local charity. This is where blockchain, a kind of digital ledger, comes into play. Imagine a toy chest that everyone can see, but no one can take toys out of or change the toys inside. That’s a bit like blockchain. It’s a safe and transparent way to keep records.
When people donate to this cause, between November 1st and 23rd, they receive a special “badge” via email. This isn’t just any badge – it’s akin to a non-fungible token (NFT). Think of an NFT like a unique, digital sticker that you can’t find anywhere else, and once you have it, it’s only yours. This badge, powered by blockchain, serves as a “Proof of Thanksgiving,” a unique digital token that proves your donation in a way that cannot be copied or changed.
